Baby School Day

We had another baby class today, this one was prenatal care. I said to Jason on Friday "tomorrow we'll learn how to change a diaper" and he said "no, YOU will learn how to change a diaper." Which actually meant he already knows how to change them and I don't. Now we both know.

We also learned about bathing babies, what baby essentials we need and tips for raising a Happy Baby. We received the DVD The Happiest Baby on the Block. In watching a few video clips in class it made it seem like taking care of the baby would be a piece of cake-- we'll see. I'm sure these tips can't hurt and we'll take all the advice we can get.

Week 34 Doctor's Appointment

We went to the doctor today. We actually had two appointments. The first at the place where they do the ultra sounds followed by the OB/GYN. I expected that because we are getting closer to delivery that we'd be able to get a better glimpse of the baby but in reality the ultra sound screen didn't reveal much to our untrained eyes. We learned that our baby is on the large size, 71 percentile. We also learned that our baby is breech, which means the head isn't down yet like it should be (see image below).

When at the OB/GYN our doctor told us that I've gained 14 pounds but that the baby is mesuring at 41 weeks. For those that don't know, 40 weeks is the typical due date so baby is definitely big. The ultrasound, which isn't excact, reveals the baby is about 5.5 lbs at this point. So in reality about half pound larger than average. Being larger and breech we aren't sure if the baby still hasn't turned because there isn't enough room or he/she is too big. Or, the baby is just waiting. (Could I be growing a procrastinator?) There is a chance that the baby will have to be born via C-section or the doctor may attempt to manually turn the baby. For now, we are proceeding as normal but in the back of my head I think this little nugget (or Goo-Boo -- thanks to Sandra's card) may come out a little earlier than anticipated.

Baby Shower Continued...

Here are a few photos from the Emmis Interactive baby shower last week. We had lots of laughs and some of my favorite pizza, Aurelio's. Jason really enjoyed himself-- he didn't know what to expect of a baby shower.

History lesson for today...

Many people in the United States of America commonly mistake Cinco de Mayo with Mexican Independence Day; Cinco de Mayo (fifth of May) actually commemorates the Mexican victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Mexican Independence Day, celebrated on September 16th, is to celebrate independence from Spain declared in 1810.

"Do you need anything from Target?"

Jason sent me a text from his iPhone "I'm stopping at Target on my way home. Do you need me to pick something up for you?" My response... "underwear." His response..."Are you serious about that?" My response... "totally"

So, Jason's next text from me is a very specific request for underwear. I gave him the brand name, style, size and color restrictions and I'm proud to say he came home with exactly what I ordered. Funny thing is that many times when I look for underwear I can't find what I need so maybe next time I'll send him to pick up a few bras for me too. LOL... seems to me he has better luck than I do. Or maybe he has better patience than I do. Either way, I now have underwear that fit again. I told him this was good practice for future requests where he may be going to Target to pick things up for me. :o)

Honeydew

More fruit analogies... I'm now at the point where the baby is the size of a honeydew. I can't say for certain what's happened in the last few days but the baby has definitely gotten heavier and I'm feeling what I would call occasional pain. I'm not certain if these are early contractions or the baby just poking sensitive parts. Friday we'll be going for an ultrasound so we should know more by the end of the week.

Fun in the Park

Jason and I have been trying to walk so a couple of times this weekend we went to Millennium Park and walked around. Here are a few photos of what we look like at 33 weeks.

Sunday School

Today Jason and I attended breastfeeding class. I've heard mixed reviews from mom friends about breastfeeding that range from "I didn't have enough milk" to "it hurt so much I didn't continue." I also know moms that breastfeed/fed their little ones that can eat, talk and run around. I'm not sure where I will end up with breastfeeding or how long I will do it but I can say I learned a lot in the class and that many myths have been dispelled for me.
