It's hard to believe how fast Charlie is growing. He went to his 8 week appointment and he's measuring in the 90th percentile. He's 13.5 pounds and 23.5 inches tall. He's outgrown most of the 0-3 month clothes and is wearing 3-6 month clothes. We are starting to see his personality. He's a happy baby and very calm. He's also a very good eater (eating about 5 ounces of formula per feeding) and sleeper (has already started to sleep most of the night). We also find he is social and easily makes himself at home when visiting a new place. In fact, he doesn't hesitate to deliver a BIG POOP in his diaper any time he goes to a new home. He also doesn't hesitate to poop around new visitors as my friend and co-worker Sandra will testify.

Winter Hat
My mom has been on my case about getting a hat for Charlie. He has a couple of hats but they fall off his head a shortly after I put one on his head. I have been looking for a new hat-- the kind with the ear flaps and a tie -- and have been unsuccessful in finding one for a newborn. In fact, today after the quarterly meeting my intention was to check out a few stores before heading back home but we ran out of time. Well, it must have been our lucky day because this evening at our holiday party my coworker Jane surprised me with a little cap she made for Charlie. It is EXACTLY what I had been looking for and fits perfectly. (Thanks Jane!)

The First Month
Charlie loves his crib. He hates being bundled up or swaddled so he's upgraded to the crib from the bassinet. The crib allows him to stretch without waking up from kicking the sides of the bassinet with his legs or punching it with his arms.

Charlie is a month old already. Where does the time go?! He went to the doctor this week and he's a hearty 10 lbs 9 ounces and is 22 inches long. He's growing nicely and his plumbing is working very good too. He's a great sleeper and eater. My only complaint is that I need more time in the day.
Enjoy these recent photos. There will be more after his first Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my blog readers.

More Cousins
Today Charlie met his cousins Melody and Carter. They are the children of Jason's sister, Jennifer, and his brother-in-law, Eric. Carter was a little camera shy so he's not in any of the photos.
Charlie has also met his cousin Ashley and Sara but I don't have photos here. They are the daughters of Joe and Kim, Jason's brother and sister-in-law.

At the hospital
I've been at the hospital since Thursday at 5pm. As of about Noon on Friday only dilated about 5cm. Doctor estimates another 14+ hours of labor. Baby should be here this weekend. Stay tuned.
Also, for those that haven't figured it out we are not having a c-section today as the baby flipped and is no longer breech.

Jason after his surgery feeling no pain (he can't even wiggle his toes)
We spent the entire day at Northwestern Hospital, again. We started with my doctor's appointment at 8am where we learned the Nugget flipped. This means that my c-section for this Friday was cancelled by the doctor. They don't do elective c-sections. The really good news was that I could go with Jason to his surgery today at 10am where he had his Achilles fixed.
For those that don't know where the Achilles is, the Achilles is the thing that connects the ankle and the calf, shown in white in the image. This area completely split in half and the two ends curled up. The doctor had to pull the ends back straight and sew them back together. Jason is unable to drive for a minimum of two weeks and will take up to a few months to get close to normal. We were joking that I may be driving myself to the hospital when the baby arrives.

Bed Rest

We spent the weekend home on "bed rest" but admit I justified getting out for about an hour for a manicure/pedicure. For me, that's relaxing. I'm going to bed early tonight-- or at least try to fall asleep early since I have a doctor appointment at 8am and Jason needs to arrive for surgery at 10am. Our hope and goal is that I can go to the surgery with him and that my blood pressure won't be high when I'm checked. Otherwise, we risk potentially both being in surgery tomorrow. Wish us luck!

The Excitement Doesn't End... Back to the Hospital Again
We spent most of the day at Northwestern's campus. Initially to see the surgeon for Jason's foot and to schedule his surgery, which will take place Monday morning.

After the excitement of seeing his surgeon and scheduling his surgery we went to my weekly doctor appointment to check on the baby. As luck would have it, all the excitement showed my blood pressure was high and because I'm 38 weeks and there was suspicion of preeclampsia last week, the doctor told me to go to the hospital to deliver the baby today. In his mind, there was no need to wait. The baby is big enough, fully developed, it's been two visits with high blood pressure and the baby was breech so why wait. So off we went.

Upon arriving at Prentice Women's hospital, a few buildings away from the doctor's office (aka the Playboy Building), I was admitted and my doctor ran a few tests-- all while Jason was in the lobby on the phone with his insurance company to get his surgery pre-approved (he was having all kinds of fun today). A few hours later my doctor confirmed a few things... first-- that my blood pressure had dropped, second-- that my tests were negative and third-- that it looked like the baby moved and was no longer breech. WHAT?! I have mentally prepared myself for a c-section (typically less than an hour procedure) only to find out I may have to push this baby out (typically 16 hours of labor for a first time mom). The only thing I can say is that I guess our days of planning anything are over and this little nugget is going to change our lives and all we can do is expect the unexpected.
