Cloth or Disposable

We've been thinking about whether to use cloth or disposable diapers for the baby. There are many pros and cons to both but the thing that was most surprising to us is that in the third largest city in the country there is only one company that provides diaper service and that's a company called Bottoms Up.

Cloth diapers have come a long way since the days when I wore them but they are still good for the enviroment, easy to use, better at preventing diaper rash and economical. I'll definitely place an order for them once we bring the baby home but will try them along with disposables to see what we like best.

You can learn more about the pros and cons of both types of diapers at the link here. Even the large diaper company studies suggest that cloth diapers are a better choice. One is mentioned in this link.

19 Pound Baby

A woman in Manila gave birth to a 19 pound baby boy. He was born via C-Section (thank goodness for the mom). The baby on the left is a typical size newborn. Believe it or not this 19 pounder is NOT the biggest baby born. In 1879 a baby was born at 23 pounds and he holds the record.

Prenatal Massage

My college roommmate, Diane Knights, is coming for a visit next weekend and one thing we like to do when we're together is go out for spa services. Who doesn't like a good relaxing afternoon at a spa?! And what a better experience than to go with a friend!

I'll be trying my first prenatal massage which I'm very excited about because I will be able to lay down on my belly. The special massage table has a cut out that will hold the belly and flex to its size. After months of sleeping on my side that will be a welcome change.

If you are intersted in going to Urban Oasis they have a special on their website for any spa service. Receive up to $20 off a spa service with one of these online coupons.

According to yelp.com, which provides reviews of local establishments, Urban Oasis receives 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Crib

We received our crib from Pottery Barn a couple of weeks ago but in transit one of the pieces was broken so we have been waiting for the replacement piece. Today it finally arrived which means that hopefully by the weekend we'll be able to set up the crib. That will definitely make the nursery seem more complete. Stay tuned for photos.

Maternity Leave

I've officially completed all my maternity leave forms and submitted them at work. I'll be taking 12 weeks of leave and my goal is to work until the baby is born. My next doctor's appointment is October 1st so I'll know soon how much bigger the baby is getting and if we'll be updating the exit plan. Our official due date is October 30 but we may be parents sooner.

Buy, Buy Baby

We were in the suburbs today and stopped in at BUY BUY BABY, which is a baby store that looks like a Bed, Bath and Beyond on the inside- only all baby stuff. We didn't register here but do like the store because it has so many baby items -- high end and low end. I believe there are only two stores in the Chicagoland area and to our surprise we ran into our neighbors there, Laura and Mark, who are expecting their first baby in December.
