Jason worked on the nursery this weekend and we're making good progress. The room is painted and decorated with Dr. Seuss. The dresser and unassembled crib are in the room but unfortuntely the crib was damaged in trasit so we are waiting to hear from Pottery Barn what they are going to do, either send us a new crib or send us a new part. Hopefully within a week the room will look more finished.

Reuben's Reuben

I can't say that I've been having many cravings during my pregnancy, but the last couple of Friday nights Jason and I have been eating dinner at our favorite diner, Eleven City Diner. It's located at 11th and Wabash in Chicago, about a mile from our home. My item of choice is the reuben sandwich and I am worse than Sally from "When Harry Met Sally" when I order it.
My typical order sounds something like this... "I'd like the Reuben's Reuben Sandwich... unassembled. I'd like the rye bread toasted well and dry on the side. I'd also like the thousand island dressing in a cup on the side. The sauerkraut should also come in a little bowl on the side (I don't want anything to get soggy from the sauerkraut juice) and the meat (half corned beef + half pastrami) and swiss cheese should go in the broiler together on a plate. Thanks"
If a new waiter is taking my order, which was the case tonight, they are concerned the kitchen will screw up my order. If a waiter has been with the diner for some time then he/she knows I'd like "the usual."
The sandwich is of course accompanied by a pickle and a tall glass of ice water. French fries do come with this sandwich but Jason ends up eating most of them and he dips them in the thousand island.
My colleague Katie, who is due any minute now with her baby, said she hasn't met a pregnant woman that didn't like a good reuben sandwich. I think I agree with her on that statement.
BTW, this place has amazing food. They are also known for their Challah French Toast, which is accompanied with fresh strawberries and toasted coconut. We have never had a bad meal there any time of the day.
In case you are wondering, the guy in the photo is Brad, not Reuben, and he's the owner of the diner.

Have you heard of Goobooville?
At our baby shower last night Sandra Madison, my friend and colleague since the days when we worked together at Chicago's B96, graced us with a custom card from her Lollipop Productions. She wrote and designed the card and I thought it was so clever that I had to share it with the world. Thanks Sandra!
In the land Goobooville, the town gathered 'round.
The Gooboos were buzzing— a nugget was found!
“A globule of gold?” “A droplet of dingled?”
“Ploplets and nodles of gobtops commingled?!”
“No!” said a voice, “I'm not a nugget!”
“Oooh!” squealed the Gooboos, “a talking Pluff-tugget!”
“No!” said the voice, “I'm a Gooboo like you...and I'm looking for parents— preferably two!”
“A baby Gooboo? But we've never seen a nugget-like Gooboo not shaped like a bean!”
Clearly this nugget was special indeed, more precious than gold or plinkets of tweeds.
Everyone wanted to parent the nugget. “We promise to feed it, and burp it and hug it!”
“No!” said the voice— “I'm sure you'd all do, but I have decided to choose you and you!”
The townspeople gasped and looked at each other. “Who is the lucky father and mother?”
Then Letty and Jason emerged from the crowd. “Are we ready for this?”, they wondered aloud.
“How many diapers does a nugget go through? And what do we do if it gets the flu?”
“Yes!” said the voice— “You'll be the best! That's why I chose you above all the rest!”
The nugget then smiled and said gleefully, “There are no other parents I want for me!”
So Letty and Jason's dream did come true— they became the proud parents of a baby Gooboo!
And fortunately, they'd heard it tweeted on Twitter that the Cat in the Hat is a wonderful sitter!
The townspeople cheered, for the nugget was right, and a new family was formed on that very night, with Letty and Jason and the goobooly ball that looked like a nugget but wasn't at all.

Baby Shower

Tonight Emmis Interactive Sales team hosted a baby shower for Jason and me at my favorite pizza place, Aurelio's. When I have more photos to share I will post them.
Everyone was very generous and literally showered us with gifts. Thanks to all that attended. We look forward to you meeting our little nugget soon.

Maternity Clothes Shopping

Thank goodness for Michael Kors. You may have seen him on the TV show Project Runway, but I've been a fan of his long before then. I hate maternity clothes shopping. I find that many of the clothes are down right U-G-L-Y and it's no fun buying something you won't enjoy wearing. In talking to many of my girlfriends who are pregnant or recently pregnant I find that I'm not the only one that has resorted to buying bigger clothes in lieu of going the maternity route. So it was Michael Kors to the rescue this weekend and a shopping bag full of new clothes.
